NEEDES members attend 100-300 incidents per year. 80% are road traffic accidents, 15% are industrial, sporting or other injuries, the remaining 5% are sudden illness.

In addition to medical and general practice qualifications, NEEDES members have specialist training in subjects such as the care of accident victims, the care of very ill children and life saving following heart attacks.

Several members take an active part in the teaching of these skills to other health professionals.

NEEDES members are called out by the Essex Ambulance Service control operators via radio-pagers to incidents likely to need specialist medical skills.

In addition many people have their recovery speeded and their suffering reduced

We estimate that the lives of two or three people a year are saved by the efforts of NEEDES members. most of these are relatively young people restored to good health
